Is your home Instagramable?

Think your house is worth a like? Follow these top tips for home staging and you could dominate Instagram’s trending posts.

When it comes to social media, we all want to look our best. With Instagram it can seem like an expensive dream to make your home look good enough to showcase. However, whilst much of it is down to lighting and angles, there are some simple tricks you can use to up your game when it comes to the perfect house picture.

Fake it with artificial houseplants

Whilst it can be lovely to have some real houseplants, if they are not cared for in the right way then they can make your house look worse. So, fake it. Artificial plants are in right now and they have never been so detailed that they could pass for being real. The splash of green will make your pictures stand out, and add a touch of freshness to the look.

Getting the right colours
Whilst it can be tricky to decide how to decorate, one easy trick is to find a single fabric that you love. Whether this is a patterned cushion, curtain or duvet cover, find the one that works for you. Then select two or three colours from it and use those as accent colour for your room. Designers have to do a lot of work to make sure that colours work together, so take advantage of their hard work and use them for your room colours.

Less is more
This adage is always true. When you are preparing your rooms make sure that you leave some areas blank. This will create a focus for that area and make sure that the right things stand out. Also, make sure that you minimise clutter wherever possible, you don't want your things to be the busy part of the picture.

Well this is odd
When it comes to displaying items, then odd numbers work best. Three is the magic number, particularly if you can vary the heights, as this will add great interest to your display. Fives and sevens also work well, but make sure it is always an odd number. This gives the right balance.

Group your books
This is one of the more popular trends on Instagram. If you have a lot of books, then group them by colour. You don't need to go full rainbow to create a stunning effect, but just by putting all the blue books or green books together will create a swath of colour and uniformity that stands out.

Picture Perfect
Another feature that crops up a lot is the mismatched picture wall. This is where you have several different pictures in frames that don't match. This can be hard to get right but looks good when you do. Plan it out with some pieces of paper cut to size. This way you can move things around until you get the look you want. If you need more frames, then check out local charity shops.

You’ll soon find yourself with more fans of your home than you ever thought possible.
